COLA Watch 2023…The developing story

We’re still a long way off from the October announcement of Social Security’s cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2023, and quite a bit will be happening on the economic front between now and then (likely in both directions). Despite the uncertainties facing the economy, many pundits and financial news sources have begun to pump out projections of what the COLA will look like based on what’s happened so far, but remember that these are just that–projections–and time will tell. In fact, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the indexes could bottom out completely and deliver a zero COLA! Nobody really knows.
