COLA Watch: Expect less but there’s a silver lining

It’s fashionable among those who write about Social Security to speculate what the next cost of living adjustment (COLA) will be for recipients, even though the figure will not be known and released until mid October 2023. Maurie Backman says the nonpartisan Senior Citizens League is projecting that 2024’s Social Security COLA will amount to 3.1%. This is a far cry from the 8.7% COLA of January 2023. Of course this also means inflation is easing, and indeed the Fed’s tight money policies seem to finally be having some effect on price pressures. Full piece here.
