Collecting Benefits on an Ex-Spouse’s Work Record–A Quick Review
The availability of benefits based on an ex-spouse’s work record is somewhat of an unknown to many. It’s especially a welcome surprise to many, as well. But, as there are in many (most) areas of Social Security there are rules that govern whether this option is open to specific situations. The rules deal with, for example, the length of the marriage, the age of the claimant, and the eligibility of the spouse. A post on signalscv.com by Jim Miller (Savvy Senior) provides a brief overview of how this provision works, and you can access it here.
