Despite a surplus, Social Security isn’t in good shape

Yes, Social Security ran a surplus of more than $44 billion in 2017; however, there isn’t much to smile about beyond that. The recently released Social Security Trustees annual report confirmed last year’s finding that Social Security is on a path of insolvency.
