Don’t Overestimate Social Security’s Part in Retirement Planning

Unfortunately, many folks have an overly optimistic view of the role that Social Security benefits will play in financing their “golden years.” As a result, many tend to arrive at their retirement inadequately prepared to deal with the reality that Social Security replaces only about 40% of their pre-retirement earnings, leaving them with a bit of a problem in shoring up their financial picture at a time when options are limited.
