During the Pandemic: The Ugly Side of Humanity

We’ve all seen the heartwarming stories about the beautiful side of humanity during this crisis – the singing from balconies, providing food and supplies for shut-ins and those in quarantine, landlords forgiving rent, creditors granting grace periods, and even socially-distanced gatherings to uplift spirits by together singing  “God Bless America.” These trying times often (and perhaps always) bring out the best in us, and even serve to draw families closer together, at least emotionally if not in person. And then there’s the other side of humanity – those who seek to use this pandemic to try to bilk unsuspecting people out of money – the scammers; criminals who take advantage of an already vulnerable population. And with substantial economic relief payments scheduled to go out soon to a majority of Americans, the scammers have quickly devised nefarious schemes to try to get yours.
