End of 2013 sees record number of Americans getting disability benefits

According to the Social Security Administration, more than one out of every four 20-year-olds will face a physical or mental disability that makes them unable to work before reaching age 67. When a disability strikes, most workers do not have an available safety net through the private sector; the Social Security Administration reports that just 31 percent of the private sector workforce is covered under long term disability insurance.
