Fixing Social Security’s Finances - MarketWatch

In this MarketWatch opinion article by Brenton Smith, the author sardonically describes how Congress has failed for decades, and continues to fail, to enact legislation which resolves Social Security’s looming financial dilemma. As Congress neglects solving a problem which has been known about for more than a decade, the burden of the eventual solution will fall hardest on those who are not yet collecting Social Security benefits – from younger workers up to those only just now approaching retirement – many of whom have no faith that the program will be there for them forever, or at all. The article is both biting and informative, and perhaps serves as a wake up call for Congress to put the partisan vitriol aside and develop legislation to solve the problem before Social Security’s Trust Funds are depleted in 2033.
