FRA No Longer Means Exiting the Workplace for Many
Attaining the coveted FRA (Social Security’s acronym for Full Retirement Age) once meant it was time to step away from work life and enter a world of total relaxation, travel, and pursuit of hobbies. These days, according to a CareerBuilder study, that attitude has shifted in the direction of a phase called the “encore career” in which retirees embark on the next phase of their working life. Whether it’s driven by financial need or a simple interest in downsizing or trying something new, the survey found that “nearly 60 percent of workers who are 60 or older anticipate looking for a new job after retiring.” Forbes contributor Christopher Young examines this shift in thinking in an article posted today on www.forbes.com.
