H.R. 6084 Included in Markup Session Agenda Scheduled for 6/21

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) announced the slate of bills to be included in the House’s full committee markup session scheduled for Thursday, June 21. Included in the bills to be addressed is H.R. 6084, The “Improving Social Security’s Service to Victims of Identity Theft Act” sponsored by Reps. Mike Bishop (R-MI) and John Larson (D-CT) . The bill, designed to “amend title VII of the Social Security Act to provide for a single point of contact at the Social Security Administration for individuals who are victims of identity theft” was introduced into the House 6/13/2018.

As submitted, H.R. 6084 includes this overview definition: “The Commissioner of Social Security shall establish and implement procedures to ensure that any individual who requests a new social security account number due to theft or breach or whose social security account number is used to fraudulently obtain benefits under title II, VIII, or XVI of this Act has a single point of contact at the Social Security Administration throughout the processing of the individual’s case. The single point of contact shall track the individual’s case to completion and coordinate with other units to resolve issues as quickly as possible.”
