Heavy Traffic Ahead for Serniors Needing to Interact with Social Security Field Personnel - Newsweek; CBPP

Several staff cuts, operational modifications, and procedural changes have been implemented by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to achieve cost savings across the Social Security spectrum. While that may produce the desired spending reductions, it will also exacerbate the annual frequency of office interactions for an estimated 1.98 million beneficiaries, according to a report highlighted in a post by Newsweek staff writer Nick Mordowanec. As the article points out, the need to make additional field office visits is expected to affect rural seniors and disabled Americans the hardest. The study, conducted by Claire Zippel and Devin O’Connor of The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, notes that “A Quarter of Seniors Live More Than an Hour’s Drive From Their Field Office.”
