Here’s how to change your Social Security direct deposit instructions

With very few exceptions, all Social Security benefits are now paid via direct deposit into your personal account at your financial institution. For many, once that direct deposit is set up, it stays the same for a long time. But in today’s mobile society it’s not at all unusual for people to need to change the account they wish their Social Security benefit to be deposited to. To change where your Social Security benefit is deposited, you will need to contact Social Security directly at 1.800.772.1213, or change your profile information (which includes your banking information) at your online “my Social Security” online account at http://www.ssa.gov/myaccount.
