A Flat Benefit Social Security Benefit–An Emerging Idea?
Although Social Security reform–structural reform, that is, to address the insolvency issue–has temporarily moved to the back burner, or maybe even backstage, we’re seeing some broad concepts emerging in the rhetoric coming from various sources. For example, there’s growing interest in the sovereign wealth fund approach to long-term funding, and ideas like Paul Gosar’s (AZ-9) Land and Social Security Optimization (LASSO) Act are beginning to draw attention. More recently, a flat Social Security benefit based on federal poverty thresholds has started drawing attention.
