Absence of Social Security Plan Cited in FY 2027 Budget

In his opening remarks at yesterday’s Senate Budget Committee Oversight Hearing on the President’s Budget Request, Ranking Member Jeff Merkley (D-OR) cited a series of “missing items,” including “… a plan to save Social Security, which will start running out of money in just six years, requiring a 28 percent cut to seniors’ benefits according to the most recent estimates from the Congressional Budget Office.” Read Sen.
