Politics Setting the Stage for Social Security Attention?
A recent post by The Caolina Journal touches on the question on the minds of so many Americans: If Social Security’s steadily unraveling financial situation has been known for decades, when will congressional minds face the problem? The post, by CRFB’s president Maya MacGuiness, puts a fine point on the matter with this: “As this year’s Senate candidates campaign across the state, voters can ask them one simple question: What is your plan to save Social Security?” Although this article is specifically focused on the upcoming North Carolina senatorial race, the question is one that has universal merit for all serving in Congress. In reality, the absence of a plan for correction, as well as an empty pledge to “protect” Social Security, is essentially an endorsement of catastrophe for millions of vulnerable American seniors.
