How Age Affects your SS Disability Claim - Daily Gazette
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a program for workers who become disabled and unable to work. SSDI is available to disabled workers until they reach their normal Social Security full retirement age, and is intended to replace income lost because the worker has developed a disability which prevents them from performing “Substantial Gainful Activity.” SSDI is, indeed, a lifeline for over 7 million workers, and a substantial number of disabled spouses and minor children.
SSDI, however, has some fairly stringent eligibility criteria, which results in about 2/3rds of all initial applications to be denied. Interestingly, it turns out that an applicant’s age may improve their chances of a successful claim for Social Security disability benefits, because Social Security guidelines include consideration of age-related factors when reviewing an application for disability benefits. This is explained in an article appearing in The Daily Gazette, authored by a law firm offering SSDI attorney services. Click here to read more.
