How Many Women Handle Retirement
15% of women over retirement age are still working, a rate that has doubled from just 10 years ago. Women statistically have a rougher time in retirement than men, especially those that are single or divorced, and they are 80% more likely to live in poverty beyond the age of 65. This leaves them with few options other than working longer and living on a strict budget. In many cases these women are working because they are not yet eligible to receive Social Security (typically, they do not have enough time in the workforce).
