HR 2552 would eliminate income tax on Social Security benefits

Last month, Rep. Thomas Massie re-introduced H.R. 2552, which would eliminate income tax on Social Security benefits.  In this article which appears in the (KY) Courier-Journal, Rep. Massie explains that taxing these benefits amounts to double taxation because FICA payroll contributions, which fund Social Security benefits, are themselves a tax.  H.R. 2552, the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act, has considerable support, including that of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC). You can get updates on the status of H.R. 2552 at https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/2552.  Click here to read Rep. Massie’s article in the Courier-Journal.

  1. To all the politicians in Washington how can you in good conscience repeal the death tax and alternate minimum tax but you cannot repeal taxes on Social Security benefits if you have a conscience the least you can do is adjust the method used for inflation that hasn’t been done since Ronald Reagan you need to pass the senior citizens tax elimination Act HR 2552

  2. Thank you Representative Massie. Those that can least afford it are taxed twice. I’m 72 years old and just gave up my second job due to health problems. I am still working my main job due to necessity. Some day I would like to retire, but the government always seems to have their hands out, asking for more. Please pass this bill.
