Increasing enrollment in Medicare Advantage - Medicare Rights Center

Enrollment in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans has steadily increased in recent years, currently accounting for over half (54 percent) of all Medicare recipients. Along with increased enrollment, Medicare payments to MA plans continue to outpace traditional Medicare spending. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that 64 percent of Medicare beneficiaries will be enrolled in an MA plan by 2034. According to a recent report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are comprising a growing share of MA plans. SNPs, which are MA plans designed to meet the care needs of individuals with special medical needs. Lindsey Copeland, writing for Medicare Rights, reports on trends in Medicare Advantage enrollment.
