Last group eligible in 2019 for spousal claiming strategy

Mart Beth Franklin explains in detail and seeks to clear up confusion on who is and who is not eligible for a particular spousal claiming strategy.  In short, those born after the Jan. 1, 1954, cutoff date will never have the option of claiming spousal benefits only while their own retirement benefits continue to grow.  Whenever they claim Social Security benefits, they will be paid the highest benefit to which they are entitled at that age, whether on their own record or as a spouse.  They do not get to choose.  Read her full piece on the subject here.
