Star Trek’s iconic Mr. Spock character offered this Vulcan greeting in nearly all of the fictional Star Trek episodes, almost certainly without thought about how the words apply to real retirement. Of course, we all want to live long in retirement and prosper while living there, but that’s a fairly large challenge for most. “Longevity risk” is, essentially, the risk of outliving your money, which could leave you destitute, hardly prospering at a time when you’re most vulnerable.
