Long Covid & the ‘broken’ Social Security disability process - CNN & AMAC

Morgan Stephens of CNN writes a comprehensive piece here about Long Covid. The Department of Health and Human Services estimates $50 billion in annual salaries is lost each year due to Long Covid. A Brookings analysis puts that total at an even higher number: a staggering $170 billion lost by workers. But three years in to the pandemic Long Covid still is not included on the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) listing of qualifying disabilities. The SSA acknowledged applicant wait times for disability benefits are “far too long,” adding that long Covid patients “face the same process and wait times as other applicants.” Experts warn to expect a denial, but there is also just a tight 60 day window for appeal.
