Managing the Urge to Retire Early in the Face of Incentives to do the Opposite

If you’ve been actively monitoring media information on retirement planning, and particularly if you’re fighting the urge to jump out of the workforce and into retirement, you’re probably at least a bit torn when you consider the incentives to remain in the workforce. High on the list of these incentives, of course, is the advice that says the longer you stay in the workforce and defer filing for Social Security retirement benefits, the better off you’ll be. But like so much in Social Security, your final decision is situational and it’s important that you consider a few key variables.
