Misleading the public about Republican plans to cut Social Security

There’s a lot of hoopla since the election about supposed nefarious plans by Republicans to cut Social Security, with a recent bill introduced by Rep. Sam Johnson getting much of the attention.  But the facts tell a different story; that the Johnson bill is only one of many Social Security bills now on the House floor; that most of the media assertions are hyperbole; and that none of the bills now in Congress call for immediate cuts to Social Security benefits.  In reality, most people know that something must be done soon to improve Social Security’s solvency, and the Johnson bill has, at least, raised Congressional awareness of that fact.  This article by Maryalice Parks and Cindy Smith appears at ABCnews.com and talks about the misleading nature of much of the coverage of this bill.  Click here to read more.
