“Original Medicare” vs. Medicare Advantage – A national picture - Kaiser Family Foundation

In this interesting article, a study found that most seniors living in rural areas tend to rely on the federal government’s “traditional Medicare – Part A and Part B” to provide their healthcare insurance, versus opting for enrollment in private “Medicare Advantage” insurance plans. That means nearly 60% of those in areas considered “rural” opt for coverage under “traditional Medicare.” Obviously, the opposite is true in the more urban areas of the country, where more seniors choose to get their healthcare coverage under a private Medicare Advantage plan. With the growth in popularity of Medicare Advantage over the past decade, its apparent that those in rural areas tend to still favor traditional, government provided healthcare over that provided by private insurers, as discussed in this Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) article by multiple contributors.
