Our View: 80 years later, Social Security at a crossroads

With apologies to Mark Twain, reports of Social Security’s death have, in the past, been greatly exaggerated. That said, the latest government report on the most central of safety nets offers dire warnings for the near and distant future if Congress does not act to correct inherent flaws in the program’s funding mechanism. Real solutions will be neither inexpensive nor painless, but if we continue to believe in the value of this social compact, they are without question necessary. Read more…
