Paid Family Leave Financed by Social Security Deferrals Now on the Table

Led by Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s proposed “Economic Security for New Parents Act,” the issue of paid family leave has entered the debate stage in Washington. Rubio’s proposal, calling for for at least two months of paid leave in exchange for an eventual three- to six-month deferral in Social Security retirement benefits, has generated commentary both pro and con, and is expected to be joined by a similar House proposal by Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Missouri. In announcing his proposal, Sen. Rubio told CBS This Morning on Thursday that “There’s nothing we can do for our children that’s better than allowing their parents to spend more time and be more involved in their lives, especially from their early days.”  Read more details of Rubio’s proposal in a www.marketwatch.com report by D.C. Bureau Chief Steve Goldstein, posted here…
