While Medicare does pay for the bulk of hospital related expenses, there can be thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. Retirees on average will face $4,300 in annual out-of-pocket healthcare expenses according to a report by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.
