Planning for retirement: A primer

If you knew how long you’re going to live, and what your expenses would be at different points in your golden years, retirement planning would be a snap.  But since you don’t know either of those things, your best course of action is to plan conservatively, because unplanned things are sure to happen along the way.  And center stage in your retirement planning should be your Social Security income, because as employer defined benefit pension plans go the way of the stage coach, Social Security is the one program you can count on to be there for the rest of your life.  This article by Jorgen Vik appears in The Daily Progress (VA) and offers a primer on figuring out how much you’ll need to save for retirement.  Click here to read more.
