Ready to Claim Social Security? Read This First

Deciding when to claim Social Security should always be done after carefully evaluating your specific personal circumstances. Easy to say, but far too many who become eligible for Social Security claim simply “because it’s there” without fully understanding the consequences of doing so. For example, your age when you claim plays a big part in how much your monthly payment will be; and if you claim before reaching your full retirement age, you’ll also be subject to Social Security’s “earnings test” which limits how much you can earn before your benefits are affected.
