Reshma Kapadia of Barron’s explains the recent wave of retirements by people not yet eligible for Social Security.  The main reason for them is that the economic downturn due to Covid-19 was brief and came amid booming stock and real estate markets.  She states, “For the economy, the rush of older workers opting to retire earlier than planned could mean the labor market is healthier than it appears.  Of the estimated five million workers on the sidelines, half of those may not come back because they have retired.”  The author covers the reality of retiring before age 62 and the tax strategies one should consider plus much more in the full piece here.
