Retirees can boost the local economy

One way to stimulate the economy, with few demands on public services, is to attract financially secure retirees. Just think, if Santa Maria could attract some of the millions of baby boomers heading into retirement, the city could benefit from the new surge of financial activity. Retirees who bring their pension benefits, Social Security and health insurance would contribute to the local economy by spending money. They would obey the laws, provide volunteer services, not have any impact on schools. Some retirees may venture into new businesses, creating new jobs. Read more.
