Retirement Savings: How much should you have?

One of the biggest factors in any retirement plan is how much money you will need to have saved before you start your golden years. That is, how big should your nest egg be to cover expenses over and above any retirement income, such as Social Security and pensions, you may have? The answer, according to this ThinkAdvisor article by Bernice Napach, is $1.7 million. But the author quickly acknowledges that very few soon-to-be-retired individuals have met that goal.
