To say that it’s difficult to know how much you need to accumulate for retirement is a pretty big unknown. There are many factors that need to be considered, not the least of which is exactly how long a period of time we need to plan for. That, of course, is an unknowable part of the equation, and so many folks lean toward “rules of thumb” to help them. But there are some tools available that can help you develop scenarios and to modify them to fit various possibilities.
