Save your Social Security card; you’ll need it for “RealID”

In a somewhat tongue in cheek narration of his visit to the Motor Vehicle to obtain a “RealID” license, reporter Dennis Dalman describes how not having his Social Security card on hand meant her couldn’t get that special “RealID” drivers license. RealID is a special drivers license from your State DMV which can be used a valid ID for domestic air travel after October 2020. If you don’t have a RealID license after that date, your normal driver’s license will no longer suffice as identification for air travel (a passport will still work). In this humorous article appearing in the (MN) NewsLeaders media, Mr. Dalman relates his experience attempting to get his RealID license while not having his Social Security card, emphasizing why it’s important not to destroy your SS card even if you have the number memorized.
