From Nick Perrine, Chief Communications Officer
Date: Monday, November 2, 2026
We are pleased to share the Social Security Administration’s progress and accomplishments during Fiscal Year (FY) 2026. Under Commissioner Bisignano’s leadership, we advanced our digital-first strategy, transformed service delivery, and strengthened program integrity, delivering significant improvements for the American public.
Throughout FY 2026, we focused on meeting people where they are, online, by phone, and in field offices, while enhancing technology, increasing reliability, and reducing wait times across the agency. These efforts reflect our workforce’s dedication and our continued commitment to delivering world-class service.
Our key accomplishments included:
- Improved National 800 Number Service: Reduced caller wait times by 80 percent since FY 2024, maintained a zero percent busy rate during the last six months, and expanded automated options that allowed many callers to complete their business without speaking to a representative.
- Reduced Field Office Wait Times: Reduced average wait times by 30 percent compared to FY 2024 and expanded automated self-service options nationwide while serving nearly 30 million visitors.
- Expanded Access to Online Accounts: Eliminated 29 hours of scheduled weekly website downtime, making personal my Social Security accounts available 24/7. This expanded availability resulted in more than 10 million additional logins over the past year.
- Expanded Online Services: Completed more than 571 million online transactions, a 30 percent increase from FY 2024.
- Increased Digital Adoption: Surpassed 105 million registered my Social Security account holders, a 20 percent increase from FY 2024, making SSA the nation’s largest digital financial services provider.
- Improved Disability Claims Processing: Reduced processing times and backlogs for initial disability claims and shortened the annual average wait time for a hearing.
- Resumed the Treasury Offset Program: Recovered approximately $645 million in delinquent programmatic debts since resuming collections in March 2025.
- Improved Vital Records Accuracy: Completed the largest Social Security number (SSN) database cleanup in agency history, correcting nearly 15 percent of active SSN records, adding 17 million missing dates of death, and updating approximately 25 million records with missing citizenship information.
- Enhanced Stewardship and Program Integrity: Implemented a record number of audit recommendations, reducing open recommendations to a 40-year low and generating approximately $16 billion in estimated savings.
Collectively, these service improvements saved the public 200 million hours that would otherwise have been spent waiting for service during FY 2025. Our accomplishments reflect our commitment to providing faster, more efficient, and more reliable service to the people we serve.
