Social Security - America’s fabulous social benefit program
An overwhelming majority of Americans know that Social Security is a program which is critical to the well being of many millions of citizens, including aged retired workers, younger disabled workers, and dependent children, spouses and survivors of retired workers. In fact, Social Security is, or is almost, the sole source of income for about 34% of it’s 62 million beneficiaries and it is responsible for keeping over 15 million Americans above the Federal poverty line. With such an impressive track record, the program can hardly be called anything other than America’s premier social benefit program.
