Social Security and Gun Control–Action Expected from New Administration

Well, it looks like we’re inching along to the start of a Biden-Harris administration (although it’s not over yet!), and one of the actions likely to surface after the January 20, 2021 inauguration will involve Social Security and gun control. As Social Security Intelligence founder and financial planner Devin Carroll reported in a YouTube post today, the Biden platform has called for reinstatement of the Obama-Biden era rule that would call for the Social Security Administration to report benefit recipients who have been determined to be “… unable to manage their for mental reasons.” The rule was finalized in 2016 but overturned by President Trump in 2017. As Carroll points out in his video, this requirement for government agencies to make mental health determinations could represent the beginning of a “slippery slope” that could sweep some folks inadvertently into the gun-ban net.
