Social Security Benefits for Parental Leave? It’s a Real Idea

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO) are introducing The Economic Security for New Parents Act.  The bill would allow new parents to use their Social Security benefits for parental leave in exchange for delaying their retirement by three to six months. The stated goal is to assist middle and working class families cope with the “income shock” of having a child.  But, as Cortney O’Brien of Town Hall notes, while there is some support for the idea, it is not without critics who think it could open up Pandora’s Box for other ideas to raid the Trust Fund at a precarious time.  Read the article here.
