Social Security: Can it go bankrupt?

If you’re at that point in your life where retirement is on your horizon, it can be pretty disconcerting to hear so many reports about how Social Security “is going broke” or will be bankrupt by the time you need it. After all, you’ve paid into it for your entire working career and were depending on it being there for your golden years. But what is the truth?
