Social Security: Continuing to “Kick the Can Down the Road”

In this opinion piece by syndicated columnist Sid Salter appearing in The Daily Leader (MS), the author laments how this year’s election rhetoric was strangely void of substantive plans to resolve the financial woes facing both Social Security and Medicare. Other than accusing each other of wanting to hurt seniors by decimating benefits, neither side offered a concrete plan to restore these critical programs to solvency, choosing instead to continue “kicking the can down the road,” as politicians have been doing for years. The article is a well-done and accurate reflection of where Social Security now stands financially, and concludes by wondering how Congress can discuss “income inequality” while allowing Social Security and Medicare to “die on the fiscal vine.” Click here to read more.
