Social Security delays identification verification requirements. - SSA.GOV

Social Security is delaying the new identification requirements for when you apply for Social Security benefits or Medicare until April 14th, 2025. Disability, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Medicare applicants will still be able to verify their identity over the phone. The agency is also going to develop an alternative process to assist “extreme dire-need situations.” For example, terminal illnesses.

Applicants applying for retirement, survivors, or family benefits will be required to make an appointment to go into their local Social Security Office to identify themselves if they can not do it online through their My Social Security Account.  For more information from the Social Security Administration click here…
