Social Security Disability’s Compassionate Allowance list expanded
Many disabled workers applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits may not be aware that the Social Security Administration uses a list of medical conditions which qualify for “Compassionate Allowance” status, meaning that applicants with those conditions will be fast-tracked through the SSDI process. The Compassionate Allowance List (CAL) identifies medical conditions which are often permanent and so severe as to leave little question as to the applicant’s eligibility for disability benefits. Though the CAL has been in use for years, it is nevertheless dynamic, meaning that it is updated by the SSA as warranted by newly categorized conditions. This Smyrna-Clayton (DE) Sun-Times article, announces that 5 new medical conditions have been added to the existing Compassionate Allowance List, already containing over 230 conditions which qualify for expedited claim processing.
