Social Security Facts and Factoids

Forbes contributor Eli Amdur, in a post on forbes.com, provides several interesting trivia about Social Security, along with some serious points on areas where governmental leadership is needed to correct flaws in the program’s structure. Among the points he raises are the aging population and the fact that Social Security design needs to keep up with the growth in longevity and the oft-mentioned point on raising–or eliminating–the cap on income subject to FICA tax. These are indeed serious topics that are under consideration and debate as Social Security grinds inexorably toward insolvency. (By the way…it’s not clear how he arrives at the assumption that there’s an 8.7% COLA in the wind again this year?)
