Social Security for Children - US News

If you are an older parent of a minor child, you may not be aware that when you claim Social Security benefits your minor child may also be eligible for Social Security benefits. There are, of course, restrictions and the child must meet certain eligibility criteria (mainly age), if your child may get up to 50% of your own Social Security retirement amount. And if you have multiple minor children, they will all also likely be eligible for benefits on your record, although a Family Maximum may limit how much each child can receive. Also, if you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public advisory service to help Americans navigate the complexities of this program. All questions are answered quickly, at no charge.  Learn more about it here…
