Social Security: Insurance or investment?

Both, and it depends are the answers to whether Social Security is an insurance plan or an investment.  Mike Causey, a senior correspondent for Federal News Network, looks at the issue here.  In a nutshell, those who like to delay as long as possible, see the program as an investment, indeed a lucrative one that increases benefits up to 8% a year if one holds out beyond full retirement age until 70.  But the other view is what if you die before 70?  Then you’ve wasted a valuable insurance benefit for which you paid in most of your life, and your heirs don’t get a dime.  Read the piece here.
