Social Security is changing; but how? - USA Today

Social Security sure has been in the media spotlight recently, with many accounts predicting benefit cuts, and some even predicting the demise of the program. Of course, most of that is hyperbolic nonsense, but what is the real situation with Social Security? Well, changes do, in fact, normally happen each year with inflation and changes to the national price index, which govern certain Social Security benefit calculations. But the real concern is uncertainty about President Trump’s emerging plan for this important program. Trump has firmly indicated multiple times that he plans no cuts to Social Security benefits and, indeed, he favors eliminating income tax on Social Security benefits. For sure, President Trump is a man of his word, and he usually doesn’t back down from his commitments. So, although waste and fraud within the Social Security Administration is clearly in the sights of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), we can likely take comfort in knowing that no cuts in benefits will happen under this administration. At least, that is the view expressed in this USA Today article by Motley Fool’s Trevor Jennewine.
