Social Security may be limiting phone services – again - ThinkAdvisor

Earlier this year, the Trump Administration announced a plan to reduce fraud by limiting the availability of phone services to recipients. Because of the pushback from the news media and the public, that plan was abandoned.

The new version would require an online PIN or office visit for a change of address, replacing Form 1099 or requesting claims status. The agency is attempting to mitigate fraud, but this would cause a hardship for some people who do not use online services and are far from a field office.
