Social Security Offices Slated to be Open by Jan 3…But It’s Complicated!

A staged plan for Social Security Administration personnel to return to on-site presence was announced last week, but there are still many wrinkles in how the “re-entry” will unfold. According to their “Phased Reentry Plan,” SSA senior leadership personnel will return starting December 1, with the safe return of employees onsite to begin January 3. The complications associated with the re-entry planning are related to the teleworking provisions that will be put in place, as well as the handling of vaccination requirements to be faced by employees and the members of the public they deal with.

Government Executive staff correspondent Erich Wagner takes an in-depth look at the plan in a post appearing on govexec.com, noting many of the issues raised by American Federation of Government Employees officials and citing the potential for confusion in meeting the vaccination rules. Check his post out here, and note that if you are interest in the details, his post includes a link to the SSA’s “pre-decisional” document released to employees last week.
