Social Security: Small death benefit causes big confusion

I’ve received several emails in the past week or so about Social Security’s one-time $255 death benefit. As part of my response, I told each correspondent that I had addressed their issues in a recent column. But later, I checked and learned the last time I discussed the issue was five years ago. Gosh! Time flies when you’re having fun writing Social Security columns! So let me dust off and update that old column and once again cover the issue of this little oddball Social Security benefit.
